Meet the Birds

Cowboy - Gray Cockatiel

Cowboy, a gray cockatiel, came to BEARS Etc. after his elderly owners could no longer care for him. Once kept in a small cage on an all-seed diet, he’s now thriving with plenty of space, proper care, and—most importantly—companionship. Cheerful and chatty, Cowboy spends his days whistling his favorite tune and enjoying life with his bird friend, Jamie.

Jamie - White Cockatiel

Jamie, a white cockatiel, was found abandoned and stressed, plucking her feathers and fearful of people. With proper care, a healthy diet, and the comfort of a flock, she has transformed—no longer plucking and now living calmly alongside Cowboy. Safe at BEARS Etc., she enjoys companionship and a peaceful, stress-free life.

Ellie the Canary

Ellie is a rescued canary surrendered in 2020 when his elderly owner could no longer care for him. Known for his sweet songs and habit of “feeding” his mirror friends, he now enjoys a peaceful life at BEARS Etc., living near other birds and thriving in a safe, enriching environment.

Hei Hei the Parrot

Hei Hei, a Quaker Parrot rescued in 2020 after being found weak and injured in Houston, now thrives at BEARS Etc. Playful and goofy but cautious with new toys, he enjoys human interaction and supervising his surroundings. Hei Hei receives expert care, enrichment, and companionship while living safely near his friend Olive.

Olive the Parrot

Olive, a Quaker Parrot hatched in 2022, was surrendered in 2023 after not receiving proper care and living with a chronic eye condition. At BEARS Etc., Olive now enjoys a safe, enriching environment near friends, receiving specialized veterinary care, proper diet, and companionship while thriving in her peaceful new home.

Storm the Indian Ring- Necked Parakeet

Storm, an Indian Ringneck Parrot rescued in 2020 after a cat attack, now thrives at BEARS Etc. Despite losing a leg and an eye, she’s energetic, loves attention, and enjoys talking and shaking her maracas. Storm lives safely with expert care, enrichment, and a healthy diet, embracing life as the spirited “Pirate Parrot.”

Rosey the Rosella Parakeet

Rosey, a rescued parakeet confiscated in 2025, now thrives at BEARS Etc. in the indoor/outdoor ‘Budgie Bungalow.’ Sweet and social, he enjoys the company of his flock and receives expert care, enrichment, and a healthy diet, living safely and happily while exploring and playing like a true parakeet.

The Flock – Parakeets/Budgies

The Flock was rescued in February 2020 after nearly 100 young parakeets were released in a Houston park. Severely neglected and too fragile to guarantee healthy adoption, 57 survivors were rehabilitated and given a permanent home. Thanks to viral community support, BEARS Etc. built the Budgie Bungalow—an indoor/outdoor aviary where about 52 birds now live safely, form friendships, and express natural flock behavior. Sponsorships help provide their specialized care, nutrition, and enrichment.
